Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred R. Kern that was taken near Cove, Pennsylvania, on 15 November 1959. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9806 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9806 was constructed in April of 1951 and retired in August of 1967 after just 16 years of revenue service. In this context, they're pulling a fully-loaded mineral train out of Altoona and will soon cross the Rockville Bridge on their way to Harrisburg and points East. Wave to the Enginemen!
